“Fly as far as your wings will take you Milagros…”
She Flies is the story of a young woman’s struggle between doing what her parents’ want and pursuing her desire for something greater. The play is a day in the life of Milagros at her high school. Milagros is a hardworking, studious, senior with dreams of success beyond her hometown.

Mike D. Garcia, artistic director of Nushank Theater Collective, adapted the play from David Rice’s short story of the same name, which appears in his young-adult story collection Crazy Loco (Penguin Putnam). Since its initial performance in March 2003, Nushank has presented She Flies to more than ten thousand students all over the country.

Starring in the production are Gavino Barrera, Marita De La Torre, Lily Gomez, and Mike D. Garcia, with music by Brian Ramos of Grupo Fantasma.

The performance is 40 minutes long. An optional question-and-answer session with the actors sometimes follows the performance.

The play works well in an auditorium setting with basic sound and lighting.
